U13 Jr. Black Bears put together an impressive tournament run in the GTA, finishing with a 5-0 record heading into the final. Their dominant stretch included a 20-2 win over the Georgia Jr. Swarm and a 15-1 victory over the Saskatchewan Jr. Rush.
In a rematch of last year’s championship game, the Black Bears once again faced the Toronto Jr. Rock. After a back-and-forth start that saw the teams tied 9-9 early in the second, Toronto pulled away to take the title with a 14-9 win, leaving the Black Bears with a hard-fought second-place finish.
Despite the tough ending, the team’s performance was outstanding across the board. Ryan Harper led all scorers with 22 points (13 goals, 9 assists), while Porter Aldrich added 12 goals and Emery Toste chipped in with 10.
U15 Jr. Black Bears built on last year’s momentum with a strong showing in their second tournament. After earning Team of the Tournament honors in 2024 despite an 0-4 finish, the group returned with grit and determination, this time translating effort into results.
The team finished 4-2 overall, locking up third place with a 9-6 win over the Rochester Jr. Knighthawks. Sawyer McDonnell led the way with a hat-trick, while Lance White Jr. and Hohnegayehwahs Mitchell each added two goals in the victory.
Liam McDonald paced the offense with 15 goals and 18 points, finishing fifth in tournament scoring. McDonnell followed closely with 17 points, highlighting a well-rounded team effort.
U17 Jr. Black Bears capped off a strong weekend with a third-place finish, continuing the momentum seen across all age groups. Coach Jordan Hendrycks described the team as more “mature” heading into the tournament, with a clear goal: to make a splash and bring home hardware.
That goal was met with a 5-2 overall record, including a dominant 9-1 win over the Calgary Jr. Roughnecks to secure third place. Jonah De Koning led the way in the final game with a hat-trick, including the game-winner, while six different Black Bears found the back of the net.
Evan Kay finished with 13 points (8G), and Joshua Bell led in goals with 9. In net, Calder Herfst posted a perfect 3-0-0 record, a 2.67 GAA, and a .914 save percentage, allowing just 8 goals across three starts.
