Cradle: A skill in which a player rocks their stick back and forth to keep possession of the ball.
Flag: When a coach challenges a call they can throw a flag, or challenge flag, onto the floor to signal their challenge.
Hat trick: When a player scores three goals in one game. All three in a row is a natural hat trick.
Hidden ball play: When a player without the ball cradles their stick to distract the defence to draw attention away from their teammate who has the ball.
Loose ball: A ball not in possession that is rolling, bouncing or rebounding. Recoveries of loose balls are tracked as a statistic.
Offensive pick: Legal interference from an attacking player on an opponent trying to defend an attacking player with the ball.
Power play: When a team has more players on the floor than the other team as result of one or more penalties.
Shorthanded: When a team has one or more players in the penalty box and has fewer players on the floor than the other team.
Sock trick: When a player scores six goals in one game.
The box: Slang for the penalty box, where players who have committed a penalty sit until their penalty is over.
